Electrical Powered Auto Turrets#16

Let’s make the electrical system more useful by making each auto turret need 5/10 power units to run.

This will ruin the game 100%.

Great idea. Turrets should be used for base defense, not portable firepower for raids etc

So only the zergs will have turrets for base defense and everyone else won’t. Bad idea. They destroy your solar panels or wind turbine, wait 2 hours and have an easy raid. Where as you as a small group won’t be able to destory the 90 wind turbines in the zerg compound and even if you do you’ve to wait 2 hours for each large battrey to drain.

I think it’s a good idea. They’re honestly OP. If you’re raiding and you want to use a turret you should have to spend the time setting up a raid base and wiring it up.

Merged Auto turrets should require electricity to turn on#56

Honestly they wouldn’t be overpowered even if they rolled it back because they are easy and cheap to kill with HV rockets/grenades now. They are a non factor unless you are online but I do think they need some soft cap to the amount people can run. It just needs some tweaking and maybe give them an onboard battery that can be charged reasonably quick with a generator.

The thing is, who joins a wasteland survival game to become an electrician? I have zero interest in their electricity set ups because its just too involved.

Blockers etc? Make it simple. make it so that if i want to charge my battery and it feed my turret then i dont need to spend ages looking up youtube guides on how to connect light bulbs in series or parrallel.

I want a simple power source, switch, powered device and thats it. 3 stages. Not electrical branches OR gates AND switches etc. WHo thought it would have been a good idea to reduce the action or community interaction part of rust?

“Hey want to raid tonight!!”
“Nah sorry i need to connect up ceiling lights with an auto turret and the circuit isnt right. need to work on that…”

Auto turrets werent OP. Now you just need to knock out their windmills or circuits etc and all the base turrets are gone.

Next update will include a step to make your own cotton for your clothes you make or have to peel apples before you can eat them…

@Chris spielvogel , you make a good point. I have a bit of a background in computers, setting things up with the electircal system isn’t a problem for me. I just figure out what I need and do it. Other people aren’t so lucky. That being said. Even though I have no issues figuring out how to do things or figuring out that a thing just can’t be done, it takes a long time to set up a system that simply opens up a bunch of doors to make movement easier in the kinds of bases I build. It takes a long bloody time just to place shit and run the wires if you don’t want the place to look like a mess and don’t want whoever offlines you following the electrical cookie trail right to the goodies. And if any key systems are on switches, you need a way to break it such that raiders can’t fix it and throw a switch when they get to your electrical room. And it also needs to be easy to fix for your team mates. I’ve found that most team mates can’t deal with simple circuitry rewiring. Literally, “Just break these two connections, and connect these two connections.” Usually my obfuscation is just a single memory block with shit hooked up super wrong. One guy I play with is reasonably intelligent, but he doesn’t wanna take time to learn rustricity either so even though he used to fix xbox’s RRODs in his spare time, he can’t wire shit in this game because learning it’s idiosyncracies takes a litte time. Time he’d rather spend doing something other than fucking with wiring.

As a 20k hours offlineraider the autoturret update made my life so much easier, now i can offline almost an entire server in a day because nobody have a turret, Thanks facepunch <3

The easier solution would have just to be only allow them to be placed within the base you are authorized to build. This would prevent people from using them as a raid tool while still allowing people to not take out your electric generators making for an easy raid. Defenses against raiding should be a challenge to overcome. Not a trivial annoyance that can dismissed by taking out a few items.

They already have to be placed inside a build you have authorization to build on that wouldn’t have fixed anything it would just mean that people would put down a triangle foundation with a tc inside seal it off then put a turret on the roof, the changes are made and aren’t getting changed. It’s a good patch which balanced the mechanics, it’s still easy to get turrets going using a windmill, so really there’s no point complaining

Why not just use LGF as an alternative to run the motor inside the turret? its a bit more expensive, but its easier to get a turret up and running for a few days before it loses power. Eventually, you can move on to Electricity. Electricity is complex for most users.

You can do that using an electric generator just hook one straight upto the turret
