I personally miss the old recoil alot, it brought a depth to the game and there was always more to learn/get better at - something to keep you playing wipe after wipe for several thousands of hours (in my case). I understand that catering to new players sells more games/skin and is attractive for the companys future, althought juding by the statistics on active users (apart from Twitch drop events)the playerbase is somehow declining.
Please consider the opinions of the veteran playerbase thats been loyal to facepunch for years. It would be great to come back to Rust and the tremendous fun fights with the old recoil!
Best regards,
Vinbaz
this has already been thing. just not viable for it to stay running
Im glad you commented, but please ellaborate! When/how was it a thing after the recoil update and why is it not viable?
people were running and older version and hosting servers dedicated for it for a few months. people simply lost the hype and got bored of playing a game that is unable to update or change and versing against repeated scripters and otherwise.
recent one shut down and the owner of it immeadiately made a cheater group to play other servers lol
Alright i understand, however an unoffical server outside of Rust/Facepunch will naturally get less popularity and chance to spread. For example just look at this situation, i love the old recoil but had no idea that these server exists. Its all but speculation in either case, but i do think that bringing the old recoil back would be a success, since it did exist and gained continuous growth for several years.
Regarding no change or updates there are plenty of examples of games that has thrived just for this particular reason, for example Runescape and World of Warcaft classic.
@oat you are talking to a robot
@KommandantJ You felt like you wanted to contribute to the discussion in a negative manner and this is what you came up with? Impressive!
The server also got taken down by facepunch and blacklisted/forced move to oldr client which killed the pop.
Was 700pop, then after client move was around 200 and died instantly.
I have 8000 hours, none of it on aim train and I’d like it to stay that way.
The recoil update was to change the imbalance in player skill levels and make the game more acessable to new players or players that dont want to be in a UKN server for over half the time they have in the game.
The update makes no sense, it would make sense in a TDM game like COD.
But in a game with high risk/high reward and where numbers are different it simply is a terrible thing to change.
While in old system you could punish number players with good positoning/aim/recoil control, now the only way you can punish them is by griefing them/silencing them/hving them, or having numbers yourself.
Currently everyone plays 8 deep for that reason, just to be pretty much uncounterable, they build as close as they can to a monument and roofcamp/1grid it, and offline raiding everyone in the process.
This change would be like having global elite players in cs, have the same result as gold novas.
And the old system wasn’t that hard, it was just there for people to ‘’get better’’ if they want to.
Personally i had around 100hrs ukn before recoil changes with 90% of that just being gungame/primitive pvp (in server downtime/for fun).
While now post combat changes i probably have 500hrs as the live game is just not fun anymore with the amount of roofcamp/offline raids and gambling gunplay meaning you lose every fight against people who are deeper then you 99% of the time.
I’ve checked recently, people play UKN more then before, so that statement is flawed.
The “Old”. system was just a bad CS:GO copy. Y’all are too new to rust to remember before they made that horrible “spray pattern” system.
Go fire a gun in real life and then compare, you’ll find that the newest recoil is much more realistic and accurate. Or don’t, who cares. Clearly you prefer arcade shooters with magical “sPrAy PaTtErNs”. That’s not how guns work. The game is much better now, more fun to play, and more popular than ever.
Ratio’d :)
@Terran Nobody Its not more popular than ever. Im surprised that you say something like this when theres accesible data online that proves diffrently - it undrmines your argument completley. Rust anual growthrate in players has declined since the recoil update and the amount of active users are currently lower aswell than before the recoil update.
Shit is declining even with the amount of new updates/new guns etc..
Shit had 0 updates before, yet managed to somehow have more players with way more hours played by each player.
Optional old recoil servers would be full pop every single one of them, thats why this guy is defending the new ones.
As he plays roof/turrets/numbers game instead of playing solo/small groups on main servers.
New recoil would die out, as the people who like it dont even play rust that much.
Softcore exists, the new recoil is as “soft” as sver.
