  1. Eating food should have its own animation and actually take time (1-2s) instead of the food being instantly consumed.

  2. Not tending to your hunger and thirst stats should have more dire consequences rather than what we currently have.
    (a) perhaps more weapon sway.
    (b) being more susceptible to the cold in snow biome, or just susceptible to negative status effects in general (poison, radiation etc.).
    (c) Regenerate health slower if you’re on a low hunger level compared to if you were at full or 80%.
    (d) Have visual impairments or debuffs such as fading edges or color desaturation

  3. Replace the comfort mechanic with a natural regen mechanic. instead of needing comfort to heal with food, allow having a high enough hunger and thirst stat to naturally heal you, perhaps a lower hunger level caps off at a certain hp, while high heals to full hp (similar to how comfort % works). To not make comfort a useless mechanic we simply make it add a bonus ontop of this natural regen mechanic, i.e having comfort will speed up your natural regen.

  4. Of course other effects will negatively impact the natural regen, such as being too cold or being radiated.

I believe that overhauling the current simplistic food system we have will allow more freedom regarding the planned tier 2 cooking that would hopefully come in the future and improve it.
